About PSAT

The PSAT (Preliminary SAT) is a standardized test that serves as both practice for the SAT and a qualifier for the National Merit Scholarship in the U.S. It evaluates students' skills in reading, writing, and mathematics, helping them gauge college readiness. The PSAT offers a valuable early testing experience, building familiarity and confidence for future standardized exams.

PSAT English

The PSAT English section assesses critical reading, writing, and language skills that lay the foundation for future SAT success and college readiness.

Reading
Passage Types: Literature, historical documents, social studies, and science-based articles. Skills Assessed: Comprehension, interpretation, and analysis of texts.

Writing and Language
Focus Areas: Grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and effective language use. Tasks: Editing and revising written passages to improve clarity, accuracy, and style.

PSAT Math

The PSAT Math section evaluates problem-solving, algebraic reasoning, and data analysis skills essential for academic success.

Content Areas
Algebra: Linear equations, inequalities, and functions.

Advanced Math:Quadratic functions, polynomials, and complex equations.

Data Analysis:Ratios, percentages, and interpreting data from tables and graphs.

Question Types
Multiple-Choice:Standard questions with four answer options.

TEST DATES

PSAT testing may occur on a school day between these dates:

  • October 1–31, 2025

    • Schools may also choose to administer the PSAT/NMSQT on Saturday, October 11, 2025 or Saturday, October 18, 2025 (for 2025 only).

    • Check with your school to find out what date they have scheduled.
